On the evening of March 17th, “Believing in your future”, a public lecture about planning of college life was held in South Campus, GDUFS. The keynote speaker was Yu Minghong, the founder of New Oriental, an educational and professional training center.
Overcome your fear, keep exploring the next step
Yu Minghong started the lecture from the movie American Dreams in China.
When he looked back on his own experience from zero to hero, he said frankly that he felt himself inferior and dare to try nothing when entering into college. Then he quoted the words by Jack Ma “A man’s achievement tends to turn out opposite to his appearance”, kidding himself as well as encouraging the students presents not to limit themselves by their fear and the imaginary “terrible future”.
In addition to courage, Yu thought that university students are supposed to cultivate themselves entrepreneurial spirit, which means not being content to stand still and keeping trying forward to the “unknown”. Only in this way can they make a progress and achieve success.
Make friends with mentors and promote yourself
Yu believed that who one makes friends with affects a lot how one grows.
A good friend and mentor can make a difference. In his college life, he formed the habit of reading under the influence of his monitor Wangqiang, which led to his large reading volume of 800 books at college. He also emphasized that students are supposed to have the courage to make friends with excellent peers and mentors, even when it seemed not easy to approach them.
